This was…unexpected! I heard of this novel from the Goodreads Choice Awards (2012 Nominee) and thought the title sounded interesting so I got it from the library. I really didn’t know what to expect from this book, but whatever it was, was pretty good!
Clay is sucked into the Great Recession and loses his job at as a website designer for a bagel compnay. When he starts looking for a new job in San Francisco, he stumbles across Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. This starts him on a path though secret societies and codes and lots of technology.
This book blew my mind! I picked it up during reading time in my LAnguage Arts class just because I’d forgotten my other book for the day, and this book just lept out of the pages and hooked on to me. I could barely put it down!
The Maze Runner, in my opinion, is like a phychological action-thriller. Jam-packed with monsters and secrets and huge shocks. Every chapter was more stunning than the last. By the time you get about 2/3 through it, you just have no idea what could happen next! It’s just perfect!
Is this book a movie yet? I sure hope so because I’m going to go see it next weekend if it is. I’ll also be running to the bookstore to get the sequel.
Please excuse me if my blog posts are short and/or choppy. My parents have not paid their Cox Cable bill recently because they are trying to find a cheaper internet provider. Right now in order to write these posts I either have to use my mom’s touchscreen phone (bleh!) or have my parents let me use the library computer (fat chance). But they said it should be back on in 2 or3 weeks. So don’t mind if anything looks funny.
Ugh! Winter break is not turning out the way I thought it would. It’s way too cold and humid in Florida. All this week and last it has either been raining or too cold and windy to do anything. I even tried to go to the park yesterday. But by the time I got there my fingers were so numb I thought they would fall off!
I did go to New Orleans last Friday just for one night and guess what? It was the same there, too! Except it was worse in New Orleans because my parents couldn’t agree on where to go.
It was still super fun just wandering around, looking at things and places and people. :Especially Uptown. Oooh! It’s sooo lovely and beautiful and nice there! I would love to live in one of those big houses when I grow up.
Maybe for the next couple of days the weather will magically get better before I go back for the (drum roll, please)…
Second half of the school year!
The Mayans were wrong!
Happy New Year everybody! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with lots of joy and good food! I’m so glad to be back to blogging after quite a nlong hiatus. I started to miss it a little bit. Maybe this year will be twice as good as last. WOW! I still can’t believe I actually went through with this. I remember sitting at my computer trying to write my very first blog post thinking, “Where do I even begin?” Thank God for WordPress, though! I never thought it would be this easy to just totally express myself to a very lovely and very creative audience.
Cheers to another year of blogging!
Oh my goodness!!! I wish I could give this book a million stars!! It was so gripping I literally couldn’t put it down, I read it all in one night! This was SCARY! Not reccomended for younger children or maybe even middle schoolers, like me. It was very, very detailed. But, that makes it great for anyone else looking for an extremely well-written zombie apocalypse thiller. The romance aspect was wonderful as well and gets even better as the book progresses. Can’t wait for the sequel and the movie!
It’s here again! Last Tuesday I went to the All-County Band Tryouts for clarinets, flutes, and saxophones. It started at 5:30 and ended at like 9:00 for some people. The earlier you got there and got your little numbered ticket, the earlier you could get it over with and leave. So, I got to sit at a little table with all of my buddies for three hours, goofing off and being nervous out of our wits as the numbers got closer and closer. I didn’t really care whether I made it in or not. I only went because it was required and a grade. But,
I MADE IT IN!!!
Woo! That was totally unexpected! I do have to admit, though, I felt as cool as a cucumber when I got into the room to play my scales and I felt even better when I went to do the sightreading! But, WOW!
Hopefully, I’ll get more information about it after Fall break, because, I don’t even know when the first practice is!
I’m going to be taking a few holiday breaks from blogging. Like, I just got back from my big Thanksgiving Break and soon I’ll be going on a Christmas Break. Just to let yous know.
While we’re on the subject, Happy (late) Thanksgiving! My holiday was nothing spactacular, but it was still fun! Unlike the rest of the country who had a week off of school, I had Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off along with the weekend. Boy, have I been looking forward to that! It was lovely not having to get up and just being able to enjoy this nice weather and go to a park and not worry about if I’m going to get my homework done!
During the day, all everybody was doing was cooking and preparing for the feast that awaited us. Also, me and my brother decorated with hand and feet turkeys. I’m sure everyone’s seen a hand turkey, but feet ones are pretty weird looking.
For Thanksgiving dinner, we had three times as much stuffing as we thought would come out, potatoes my brother made all by himself, canned cranberry sauce, my mother’s coleslaw with an entire jar of mayonnaise (60 servings? More like 10!), my secret recipe candied sweet potatoes with a super-sweet sauce, and a big, fat scrumptious turkey that had spent the night brining so it would be nice and juicy and plump the next day.
My classmates were talking about some weird stuff in Language Arts. We had to do this Scavenger Hunt thing, but everyone got to around number four and then quit. So, we were all just messing around while Mrs. Richmond, like, took a nap or something because she didn’t say anything for most of the period. Somehow, we got on the subject of Personal Development, and of course, really nasty jokes. I’m not going to say them all, but my favorite was,
A vegetarian walks into an Italian restaurant.
The waiter says, “What would you like this evening?” Says the waiter
“I’ll have the meatballs, hold the meat.”
I know. This is very immature for a bunch of eighth graders.
I’ve decided to make my “Books I Want To Read Page”into a “Books I’ve Already Read Page”. I just think this will work out a little bit better than the previous idea. I’m thinking to make a separate page for each year like one for this year and 2013 and so on. Just to categorize it.
How is it? Do you think it’s better than before?
Today, I got up, took a shower and got dressed and was sitting in my living room eating oatmeal. Just as I was putting my bowl in the sink, I remembered I had forgotten to wash my hair. I smelled like a wet dog. Instead of getting back in the shower, which would take forever, I tried to wash my hair in the bathroom sink. It worked, except for when I got my hair stuck down the drain, almost. Once I was done with that dilemma, I hit my head really hard on the faucet. BAM! OW! I ended up with a huge bump on my head. At least I smelled good.
