The Maze Runner by James Dasner

The Maze Runner by James Dasner

This book blew my mind! I picked it up during reading time in my LAnguage Arts class just because I’d forgotten my other book for the day, and this book just lept out of the pages and hooked on to me. I could barely put it down!

The Maze Runner, in my opinion, is like a phychological action-thriller. Jam-packed with monsters and secrets and huge shocks. Every chapter was more stunning than the last. By the time you get about 2/3 through it, you just have no idea what could happen next! It’s just perfect!

Is this book a movie yet? I sure hope so because I’m going to go see it next weekend if it is. I’ll also be running to the bookstore to get the sequel.

I think this is one of the best books I’ve ever read! I must admit, it wasn’t as good as the second one, Everwild, but it was still very dramatic and suspenseful. I’m definetly saving up my money for the third one.

Everlost is about 2 children named Nick and Allie that die in a car crash and get sent to Everlost. Here they meet Lief and, later on, Mary Hightower and her children. While they’re staying with Mary Hightower they start to learn about Everlost and soon they are heading out to find the Haunter. The Haunter is one of the people in Everlost that have ways of communicating with the living such as skinjacking. Nick and Lief get trapped by him while Allie goes out looking for help only to get in a large argument with Mary. Meanwhile, the McGill raids the Haunter and sticks him in a barrel. In his raid he happens to take Nick and Lief, who were also in barrels, aboard his ship and they are chimed along with hundreds of other children because of the McGill’s quest to reclaim him life, supposedly. Allie tries out her skinjacking skills in order to get on the McGill’s ship and succeeds. Eventually, Nick gets off of the ship and goes to Mary for help. She decides to help because she knows the McGill’s weakness. Allie coaxes the McGill to Atlantic city, the place where he was once defeated by a group called the Twin Pier Maurauders, in hope that the gang will be able to defeat him again so Allie and the rest of the Afterlights can be free. When the McGill and his crew get there, they find that there is no gang to be found and Allie thinks she is doomed for the rest of eternity with this monster. Out of the sky comes Mary Hightower and Nick in a great, big blimp. When they land, Mary Hightower steps out and shows the McGill what he really looks like and then he starts turning back from an ugly monster to Mary Hightower’s 14-year-old little brother. Everyone is shocked but all of the McGill’s past prisoners find this a good time to start beating up the McGill, so they do. The McGill runs away in humiliation on a horse. Everyone boards onto the blimp to go back to Mary Hightower’s place except for Allie, who is running away from the McGill. She skinjacks another person but this woman starts to fight back and Allie is soon sinking to the middle of the earth. Once again, she is doomed until a hand, the McGill’s, pulls her out of the sinking quicksand-like earth and saves her. She and the McGill becomes friends and ride off together in search for Allie’s home. Meanwhile, Mary Hightower finds out that she lost one of her children, Vari, and when they go back to the piers to look for him they find nothing. She is so exhausted from the whole situation that she takes her first bit of sleep in decades. While Mary is sleeping, Nick becomes in control of a bucket of coins that Mary told him to hold for her. Curiosity gets to Nick and he finds out what the coins are used for: sending children to the light that they missed when they headed into Everlost. Nick starts sending all the children he can find in Mary Hightower’s possession on their way to their rightful death. When Mary awakens she is horrified to find all of her children gone and then mortified when she finds out that Nick, one of the few people she trusted, sent them all away. She becomes enemies with Nick even though she is still in love with him.
