Alas! It is finally time for the infamous annual presentation of The Phantom of the Opera!!!

Today was the day in my chorus class. All of the young ladies were swooned and entranced as Mrs. Horne gracefully belted out the melodies to this classic horror-story-turned-romance! I just love it! I remember the first time I heard the story in her class in sixth grade. My first thought was, Wow, how romantic! This has ever since opened up my eyes and ears to the world of musicals and has changed my world forever. I’m serious! You never really appreciate art or music until you learn of something so profound as to make you have a revelation of sorts!

Ever since, I’ve become obsessed with musicals and Andrew Lloyd Webber, to be precise. I’ve added at least ten to my mental musical repertoire, such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Rent, and Madame Butterfly. But, The Phantom of the Opera has ultimately topped my list and probably will for the rest of my life! Right now, I own the 2004 movie with Emmy Rossum, and one of the actual musical’s CDs (I think it’s something like the London Symphony Chorus). I’m planning on watching the movie in celebration of Valentine’s Day either tommorrow or Friday. I’m so excited! Even though it’s, like, the 6th time I’ve seen it!

Anyway, so I spent the rest of the day humming with all of the songs stuck in my head. What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?

A few days ago, Mrs. Galloway’s 5th period class finally became the first group doing this project to actually finish filming alltogether!!! Now all we have to do is some quick scene editing and putting in transitions on a very handy-dandy computer application that the school has. We’re even almost done with that!

The only thing is that we don’t really know how to incorperate a slide show into the video. That was the other half of the project, making a presentation with a bunch of facts about bullying rates and depression and all that jazz. It was one of the first things we took care of so I never really wrote about it. Mainly Jordan and Claire were in charge of that department and when they completed the slides, everyone took turns narrating them. That was the easy part.

Writing the Script: Act VII

Tommorrow we will be filming our (hopefully) last scene!!! Today we filmed the part where me and Claire encounter Heavyn on the stairs on the 6th grade hallway. Heavyn gets taunted for being rich and Jordan comes in to save the day. What was really funny is that in order to make it seem like we were coming out of the hallway, me and Claire had to interrupt Mr. Lawson’s science experiment that was taking place at the end of the hallway like 10 times!  Everybody had also decided to switch up the script somewhat so it’s different than what I had explained in the first posts about it, but it still has the general idea.

Also it might all just go to bust because Lathan and Dionte can’t get out of their classes anymore so we might not be able to film with them, but we’ll probably figure something out…

Me, Claire, Gina, Jordan, Heavyn, Lathan, and Dionte:

Future movie stars.

We started actually, ACTUALLY filming today. It took Mrs. Galloway 25 minutes to figure out how to use the camera and 15 to show Gina how to use it. Gina was filming today because she’s only in one scene but we did not get to that scene because class is only 50 minutes long! Also, this was Lathan and Dionte’s first time even looking at the script so that was complicated. Although we somehow managed to get to the third scene out of like 10 so that was pretty good.

Writing the Script: Act IV

We performed our Rumours skit for Mrs. Galloway to get her input. She said that quote,

“It needs to be less Days-of-Our-Lives-like. Less of a 90’s preppy girl showdown.”

Everyone burst into laughter because it was true! We were so excited since it was the first time we performed it all the way through with all of the cast members, we apparently decided that we should overexaggerate as much as possible!

Writing the Script: Act III

We worked more on the dialogue today. All 5 of the crew members were here. We tried to get Lathan and Dionte into the cast. I think Dionte agreed, but he hasn’t asked his teacher for that period. But, when Heavyn asked Lathan to be her boyfriend (in the script) he totally flipped out so I think we’re going to need to think about getting a replacement for him, because he probably won’t do it. Lathan HATES Heavyn’s guts.

Writing the Script: Act II

Today, we made the final copy of the script for Rumours. Well, it wasn’t really the final copy, it was more like the complete outline. This is because today we started adding in the dialogue and we also determined our character’s names. My movie name is Jessica the Bully. The class only got about half-way through the dialogue, but we could have finished if we weren’t missing 2 of our 5 cast members because of PATS. I’ve decided that if I can get a hold of the movie video, I might post it here because it sounds like it’s going to be very comical, so far.

Writing The Script: Act I.

Today, we finished the 1st draft of the script for,

Rumours

(Cont. from Scene II)

Scene II

Jordan tells Heavyn the rumour, the rumour is that Heavyn is cheating on her boyfriend, Lathan, with Dionte. (They might change.) Heavyn runs off to the bathroom with large exaggerated sobs. The principle, Gina, premeres on stage and says, “Are you ok?”. Heavyn runs out and principle Gina is confused.

Scene III

Heavyn is alone. The bullies, Me & Claire come up and start taunting her. Jordan arrives and tries to stop the bullying. Me & Claire turn onto Jordan and start insulting her. Heavyn and Jordan decide to tell the principle. All three of them have a big conversation (this is where we actually talk about how bad bullying is and a bunch of statisics and such).

Scene IV

Gina, Heavyn, and Jordan confront Me and Claire. The bullies plead for forgiveness. Heavyn and Jordan do not accept their apologies. The principle drags Me & Claire to the office by our ears. Dean Thomas really talks about bullying, and he can make a point. (We’re not sure of this, either.)

And that concludes Rumours: A Mrs. Galloway’s 5th Period Production

(Applause)

(Continued: Writing the Script: Act III)

Today when I got up, I did not want to go to school, as normal. But, the second I got to homeroom I felt 100% better. I have no idea why, though. Nothing too exciting happened today, except we got a new project in research/Mrs. Galloway’s class. My group, (which is really my whole class since there’s only 5 people), decided to do a documentary/video/performance about gossip and rumours. I think this is the best thing we’ve ever done in research (even though I don’t think this requires research). The plot isn’t quite stable yet, but it goes something like this:

Scene I

Heavyn (the victim) walks down the hallway all fancy-like. Me and Claire (the mean girls) start whispering a rumour. Jordan (the observer) overhears our whispers, but the audience doesn’t. Jordan is shocked!

Scene II

Jordan tells Heavyn the rumour…

And that’s all we came up with after 50 minutes of thinking. We are probably going to add more cast members, but we didn’t get around to it yet.
